This memorial website was created to remember our dearest Irene Isabella Kallay Conlin who was born in Chicago on August 29, 1917 and passed away on February 15, 2011 in Seattle WA. You will live forever in our memories and hearts.

It is with both sadness and joy that we announced in 2011 the passing of my Mom, Irene Isabella Kallay Conlin, the Matriarch of our immediate family. Alas, the Lord decided to give her peace without pain and called on her the morning of February 15th in the hospital. The sadness we feel is for losing the Matriarch of our immediate family, a woman of tremendous strength, courage and moral fiber. The joy is of a woman who accomplished 93 years of achievement and a rich history, spanning decades of a fast changing world; A woman who is survived by a very large family of kids and grand kids and great grand kids, as well as extended family in Illinois, Europe and the South West Pacific. Beautiful services, along with a slide show of her life were held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help located in Everett WA. She was laid to rest at Mt. Carmel Historic Cemetery in Snohomish. She was given a police motorcycle escort by four officers to her resting spot and a Piper played some of her favorite tunes at the gravesite service while it snowed.

During her lifetime she traveled to Europe and Mexico, lived in Chicago, Florida (several cities on the Coast), Long Beach Mississippi and New Orleans settling in the Greater Seattle area where all her children and some grandchildren reside.

The Family appreciated all the prayers and kind words then and now; this site was initially launched by a loving grandchild (Dante). Now we share with the world how special a lady our Mom was and thereafter maintained and updated by her son.
Thanks, Ron Conlin, (Son) on Behalf of the entire family.

To my siblings on Mother’s Day

Mothers Day,

I already gave you your Mother’s Day card for this year; you’re so far away but so near.

I can't hug or kiss you - all I can do is miss you.

I think about you day and night it's just because you’re so far from sight.

But I know you’re in God's arms now back to where you came from and being taken care of.

I'm thankful for all the years we got to share Love.

Now I pray for my siblings to make it though these days of missing you

Till we are all together- kissing you.

                        From Your Loving Daughter/Sister

                                 Veronica

Teraz modlę się, aby moje rodzeństwo to jednak te dni missing you
Do jesteśmy wszyscy razem, całując cię.

I know how long it has taken me to write down how I feel and I’m sorry, but it was only because I didn’t now what to say or how to say it... Overall I guess I just wanted more time. I wasn’t always around and I didn’t get as much time to share with you as I had wanted... You have lived a long, hard working, prosperous life. It is your time now and you are in a better place. Thank you for everything you have done to build this family into what it is today! You deserve peace Grandma; We love you.

Grandma, God called you over a week ago. Yesterday was your funeral.

Every free second my mind wanders, it goes to you.

Here are just a few of those “seconds” that make me smile; Roger Whittaker on 8 track, Murder She Wrote, plastic on your couches, my sore thumb,  you being the only one by my bed side when I woke up as a kid after my nose surgery, your little red truck, Moondoggie (the reason I have 3 small dogs), poppy seed kolache, UFO crash landing in Forest Park, the day my mom became sober, boochinkey (sp), your lead foot, "make my day, punk" , Parcheesi the board game, the ivory soap elephant I carved you as a kid that you kept for years,  Sherry wine, your FM radio with the multi color buttons, powdered milk, you always staring at me and smiling… and most of all you thumbing your nose.

Yesterday was your funeral. I think you’d be so proud of your sons and daughters, they are every bit a piece and all of you.  My wife says I cried enough for everyone there. I hope you’d laugh, but as I stood there looking at you, I tried to smile and I thumbed my nose one last time.

Every free second my mind wanders, it goes to you.

I was living in Anchorage,ak. from '83 to '93 and before I left I had a visit from mom. She was going through some tough times down here in the "lower 48" and wanted a break so unannounced she hopped a cruise ship and headed for Anchorage. However no one knew she was leaving and I did not know she was coming and she did not know that the cruise ship went up the Canadian coast and the last stop was Haines,ak. which unfortunately is still a three day bus trip to Anchorage. Now keep in mind she was in her late 70's and had never been up to Alaska before. She was one of the bravest people i have ever known. I remember her nearly getting into a fight with men twice her size trying to protect her kids. But that's another story. When the family called me and told me she was coming I had to try and make arrangements for accommodations as i lived in an efficiency with no spare room. Now you could say it's the luck of the Irish or the good Lord looking after us but i found a wonderful woman who ran a home for unwed mothers and she helped put mom up while she was there. We had a few days of sightseeing and i took her to the famous "bird House" outside of anchorage which is a local bar that survived the "64 earthquake and where people leave all kinds of memorabilia. Mom left something but I’ll be darned if I can remember what it was. I do have a photo of her outside the bar. Well it came time to leave and I dreaded the long trip back so I tried to talk my mom into taking a airplane ride back to Seattle. She had never flown in a plane before and did not want to go but low and behold it turns out that the woman running the shelter was an retired airline stewardess and convinced mom it would be a great adventure. There’s that luck or angel again. So for the first time in her life and by herself she hopped an Alaskan airlines flight back home.

I have been a friend (and co-worker) of Ron's for more than 30 years. I found out today of Irene's passing. While I never had the pleasure of meeting her, I heard many family stories from Ron over the years. She had to be quite a Mom to have raised such a fine son.

Please know that my wife and I have your family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

I've been a friend of Randy's for about 20 years.  We worked together in Everett for a number of years.  I had the privilege of meeting Mrs. Conlin a few times while Randy and I were working together.  She was so sweet!  I truely enjoyed visiting with her while she was there.  I also over the years got to hear some great stories about Mrs. Conlin from  Randy.  I believe she was one of a kind.  One quick story I have to share is when she was living just up the street from the office we worked in. The fire station had a call.  The fire trucks went blasting by her place with lights and sirens blazing.  The trucks were headed in our direction and Mrs Conlin called to make sure the fire wasn't at our store and to make sure everything was o.k.  I thought that was the greatest!  : )  We had a good chuckle out of that, but that's what great mom's do!
All my thoughts and prayers go out to all of the family and friends of Mrs. Conlin and deepest sympathies from the bottom of my heart.

I had the pleasure of meeting Irene over 10 years ago when she was living in her holiday trailer, I think out or by Lake Stevens.  Over the past 10 years I was not able to see her again as I live in the "Great White North" in Benalto, Alberta Canada.  Through this past 10 years though I was able to have recent updates talking to my wonderful, dear friend Veronica.  We knew the time was coming but from my own experience it seems nothing can really prepare us.  I said nightly prayers for Irene, my adopted Sister Veronica and all the rest of your family.  Although Irene may not have been able to express her feelings at the end I am certain she knew of the wonderful care, love and loyalty all of you were showing her.  May you find strength and healing now.  May it comfort you to know that as long as you are alive your precious Mom (and Grandma) will live on in your memories of her.  When the time comes I believe that you will all be joined back together again where there is no sadness, sickness or pain.  This coming Saturday, February 26th, at 1:00 my thoughts and prayers especially will be coming to you across the miles.  God bless you all!

Veronica was taking her mother into the clubhouse where a birthday celebration awaited for Veronica's mother.  I happened to be near the clubhouse at the time and had the honor and pleasure of meeting her mother.  Isabella looked beautiful, and was aglow with the celebrations about to begin on her behalf.  I am Veronica's close friend and prayed for her mother, and for Veronica and all of her family.  I am fully aware of the love and tenderness that Veronica and all of you have bestowed upon your mother.  If love could bring your mother back, she'd be right back with you instead of now simply in your hearts but that would not be fair for Isabella.  She is now pain free, in the arms of our Lord and Savior, and joyous once again being with her family members having gone before her.  May God in His mercy give you strength to get through this difficult time.  If your mother was anything like Veronica then your mother has left you with a wonderful legacy ... love, concern, and tenderness for each other, and for others, and to that I say Amen.
